The family tree to the left shows my immediate heritage. On my fathers side, neither me nor my father ever met my grandfather Thomas Sydney. He left England ca 1899 to fight in the Boer war, married my grandmother who my father had only a fleeting memory as she lay dying in the Workhouse hospital in Wesham, Lancahire. My great grandfather’s origins are cloaked in mystery. On all official documents he said he was born in Worcester but there is no clear trace of his birth there. My best guess is that he was the illegitimate child of Ellen Lloyd and was born on Sept 18th 1855 in New Street Ledbury as Thomas Hentry Lloyd.

On my mothers side , her maternal grandfather was a John Moorey who was descended from a family of besom broom makers in the Haslemere / Linchmere area of Surrey
